Who is God and what is the Trinity?

C. S. Lewis puts it like this: When you beget, you beget something of the same kind as yourself. A man begets human babies, a beaver begets little beavers, and a bird begets eggs which turn into little birds. But when you make (or create), you make something of a different kind from yourself. A bird makes a nest, a beaver builds a dam, and man makes a wireless set (or a computer)
CS Lewis is a Christian writer that I sometimes quote because he has good theology. good theology is very important. What you should believe should be in line with church history and lines up with the word of God. whenever someone says "I have had a new revelation from god", you should run the other way. Every teaching of the word of God, must line up with the word of God (the bible). If a man were to say that an angel of light brought me another gospel and he is supposed to start a new religion, you should check it against the bible. Paul says in Romans that If anyone should bring you another gospel, other than what we have preached to you, don't believe them. That is where we are to start. Now to just go to the bible and start in Genesis and read through to the end of Revelations, you won't really get what you are looking for. That is why we rely on sound teachers and sound doctrine. There are many people out there who are deceiving people by saying things that "tickle their ears". In other words, they are telling them what they want to hear and not the truth. with that in mind let me tell you why Jesus not only is God, but had to be God. Let's first begin with the Trinity and that is the hardest to wrap ourselves around. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three separate persons in being. That means they have three separate bodies per say. Although they are three separate beings, they are one God. All that the Father is, the Son is, and all that the Son is, The Spirit is. So, the mind of God the father is the same as Jesus. Jesus always does the will of the Father and knows the will of The father. The same is true for the Spirit. Jesus is the express image of the Father. That is to say that Jesus is like a reflection of the Father in a mirror that not only reflects the image, but also the thoughts and desires of the Father. The same is true of the Spirit. There is however, a hierarchy of the God head. You can think if it as a family. A husband is the head of the household, the wife is equal to the husband, but is to submit to the will of the husband, and the children do the will of the father and mother. The relationship is the same in the trinity. God the Father is the head, Jesus submits to the will of the Father, even thought he is equal to the Father in all ways, and the Spirit being equal with God the Father and God the Son, submits to them and does their will because it is all of their will. So, the position of "the Son" has nothing to do with being born, or being less than God. It is how we are to see Him in relation to God the Father. Today, being the only begotten son, has little meaning, but 2000 years ago, people would have understood that being the only begotten son meant the Son had all the privileges and rights of the Father. They would have been seen as equal.
